Bloom Fighters is focused on harmful algal blooms (HABs). These events are caused by the proliferation of microalgae and have several negative impacts to the environment and human health. More specifically, the game will teach the importance of reducing the nutrient load to freshwater water bodies to decrease the frequency and magnitude of cyanobacterial blooms (CyanoHABs). Players will score points by removing coins (representing nutrients) from a lake and win the game if they avoid the bloom formation. The purpose of this project is to create an educational game focused on teaching the public about our role in maintaining healthy aquatic ecosystems and lessons about climate change.  The target audience for these games is 3rd through 5th grade students.
